How this is figured. Staff productivity cost = staff affected x hourly cost x outage hours, assuming staff are 50% to 100% unable to work during the outage. Lost revenue = revenue per hour x outage hours. Total = staff cost plus lost revenue. This does not include data loss, recovery labor, or reputational cost, so the real figure for a serious incident is often higher.
